Online Course Description

This course is designed to help the music therapy clinician expand their musical skills in order to better facilitate functional therapeutic goals. Sarah shares considerations, exercises, and tips for providing optimal musical cues in order to facilitate functional outcomes. This is an active course, where you will have tasks to complete in order to practice concepts!

Topics include:

  • Expanding your facilitation skills on the piano
  • Sarah leads you though exercises to build confidence on the piano. This includes tasks for you to try!
  • Tips and tricks for facilitating functional goals
  • Autoharp 101
  • Facilitating Movement and Speech on the Autoharp
  • Clinical video

Learning Objectives

Course participants will be able to:

  • Play music that will support the client’s treatment goal (CBMT Domains I.D.10)
  • Identify client need and create music specifically for those needs (I.D.10; II.A.2)
  • Apply elements of music to facilitate the therapeutic goal (I.D.10)
  • Increase ability to improvise and create music (I.D.10-11; II.A.2)
